Free SSL Certificates

Domain validated SSL certificates enable a lock next to the website address in all browsers. This means that a visitor is receiving original content from the original server and all data are encrypted in transit to preserve confidentiality.

Organization and Extended validation SSL certificates show a website`s owner company name in the certificate details dialog. Most visitors will never check this data.

SSL certificates warranty provides a theoretical financial protection to your website visitors. If the certificate authority fails to properly validate the information contained in a digital certificate, and their failure causes the end-user to lose money in connection with a fraudulent online credit card transaction, then the end-user may have a claim to recovery under the certificate warranty.

In practice such a recovery is almost impossible to receive:

• Only credit card transactions qualify. Wire transfers, PayPal and any other transaction does not qualify. But credit card companies provide their own protection against fraudulent charges through chargebacks, so the visitor’s bank and not the certificate authority would recover such a loss.
• Phishing, scam and other fraudulent websites use misleadingly similar domains to other brands. Issuing certificates to such domains is not considered a failure by the certificate authority.
• There has been only a single case of a certificate authority issuing faulty certificates – DigiNotar. This company filed for bankruptcy immediately and did not accept any claims.
